Exams update - November 2015

Welcome to your Exams update

Over the last month we've met with over 200 exams officers to address the issues we faced this summer and request your feedback. To those that attended, thank you for being honest and giving us suggestions or how we can better support you.

We are busying ourselves sharing this feedback across the business to understand what can be done. Next month, we’ll share with you the key topics and more specifically what we’re doing about them. As always, if you want to add to this and give us additional feedback, please use the feedback link to ‘have your say’ below.

If you're using e-Subs: Centre marks submission to submit marks for your November coursework/controlled assessments, you will have now seen the videos and guides online. We've had some great feedback on the system so we're really pleased you've found it easy to use.

Wishing you all the best for your November exams!

  Hints and tips

  • GCSEs in the November series will be available for re-sits only - see our entries pages for important subject notes and entry rules.

  • All schools and colleges should be familiar with the JCQCIC Instructions for conducting examinations (ICE) booklet. To avoid potential breaches of security and possible malpractice, care must be taken when opening question paper packets. Another member of staff should check the time, date and other paper details before a question paper packet is opened - see page 29, section 11.

  • Estimated entries 2016 – we’re only collecting estimates for the small number of subjects that require a dispatch of early exam material. To ensure you receive these exam materials on time, please submit your estimates to us now.

  • 2015/16 entry fees and other charges version 1.2 is available on our website. Changes include page 6 - corrected dates for transferred students.

Submitting coursework and controlled assessment marks for the November 2015 exams series

If you’re about to submit marks for the November series, please note that you may only submit your marks online through e-AQA Centre marks submission (CMS) or EDI.

If teachers have an e-AQA user name and password, you will be able to grant them access to Centre marks submission.

If you need to submit marks for a student that is not on your mark list in e-AQA CMS, you must make an entry for that student first. This may change the sample requested for moderation.

For more information about getting started on e-Subs: Centre marks submission, including online tutorials and FAQs, please visit our website.

We’ve guidance for submitting marks, amendments and sending students’ samples to the moderator. Any mark amendments should be made online via e-AQA Centre marks submission.

It’s important too to check mark accuracy for your students. Please check the mark totals are correct on the Candidate record form and that for each student, the total mark from the Candidate record form is correctly submitted to us.

The last date to submit marks for the November 2015 series is 5 November.

November 2015 special consideration requests – change to submission deadline

If your school/college is submitting any special consideration requests for students for the November 2015 exams series, please submit these by Tuesday 17 November 2015

Please note this is slightly earlier than the published deadline of 20 November and allows us to process your request in time for results day.

After 17 November you won’t be able to submit these online through e-AQA. If you have any late exceptions or queries, please email the special consideration team SpecialConsiderationQueries@aqa.org.uk and we’ll be happy to help you.

Exams stationery

The November 2015 series question paper stationery list is available in the Admin folder on Secure Key Materials via e-AQA. The list provides an ‘at a glance’ summary, so you can see what you will need for each exam.

You can request additional stationery using the order form or call 0800 197 7162 (+44 203 671 8010 outside the UK).

For the January 2016 series, we’ll send stationery to arrive in schools and colleges by late November - see our exam materials and stationery pages.

Dispatching exam scripts

We’ll provide bar-coded examiner address labels, attendance records and white AQA branded S1 sacks for dispatching your students’ scripts for the November exams series.

For more information on how we send you examiner labels and how to use the yellow label service, please see dispatching scripts.

If you have not received your labels on the day of the exam, please call us on 0800 197 7162 (+44 203 671 8010 outside the UK) or email eos@aqa.org.uk so we can check your email address is correct on our labels system and send them to you.

We’ve been made aware that the QAN (Qualification Accreditation Number) codes for AS and A-level English Language and Literature (7706/7707) have been displayed incorrectly in the specification document and on our website.

The correct codes are:
  • 601/4642/4 (AS)

We have now updated our website and the electronic version of the specification to display the correct codes. Please note that printed copies of the specification will display the incorrect QAN codes.
