Welcome to your Exams update |
|
And breathe….. You’ve done a fantastic job this summer and we really appreciate all your hard work. Thank you!
We’re now focusing on getting the exam papers marked and I’m sure you're turning your attention to preparing for results days.
As there are a few changes to this year’s results, we’re working hard to make the process as clear as possible from the format of the new AS results to Ofqual’s decisions on changes to the post-results review. You can find more information within this update, via our webinars (and then on You Tube) or on the results pages of our website.
I do read all the comments in answer to the survey within this update, so please keep telling us how you’re feeling and how we can improve our service.

 |
Hopefully you’ll soon find time to relax and put your feet up. I hope you enjoy a well-deserved break.

Summer 2016 series results |
Results are published from 6.00am on
- Thursday 18 August for A-level
- Thursday 25 August for GCSE
You can contact us for any help and support from 7.00 am on the day before and on results days.
Preparing for results
There are a few important things you’ll need to know before results day including access to e-AQA and Enhanced Results Analysis (ERA) and making your final entry checks. |
 |
We’ve also an example results slip for the new AS specifications – no UMS will be shown, as these are not used in linear qualifications.
- For late awards and important entry rules for GCSE November re-sits, please see our Entries pages.
- Late awards don't apply to GCSEs because they're now linear rather than modular.
- Moderation feedback forms will arrive by post on results day. For missing or incomplete forms, please email CourseworkAdmin@aqa.org.uk
- Personal and Social Education (PSE) entries – see how we send results.
Access to results
Exams office staff can access results and grade boundaries on EDI A2C, e-AQA and ERA from 12.01am the day before (Wednesday). All other users will have access to results from 6.00am on results day (Thursday) – see results days for what’s available and when.
Please note that results services on e-AQA and ERA will be unavailable at times during the week prior to A-level and GCSE results days, while we update results information. Services will be available the day before and on results days.
Results day support for students
We’ve information and guidance for students and parents, including our video about how grades are awarded in results days for students.
Students can find out if they have gained a place at university by logging onto the UCAS Track Service on results day. Schools/colleges can log onto the Adviser Track Service to see which of their students were successful. |
|
Summer 2016 post-results services |
You can find all the information you need about post-results services, including deadlines and fees on our post-results services pages.
We’ve improved the pages to make them more accessible, so please let us know what you think.
Book your place on our last post-results services webinar on Wednesday 6 July.
Changes to post-results services
Many of you will have seen Ofqual’s published decisions to the consultation on changes to marking reviews, appeals, grade boundaries and the Code of Practice which recently concluded.
We’ve been in discussions with Ofqual and JCQ (Joint Council for Qualifications) about what this means for summer 2016 post-results services. You can read an update about the changes to the post-results review service on our website.
We've also been reviewing our processes and invoices to schools will now be sent in November rather than December.
Summer 2016 certificates
As results days fall slightly later this year, the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) has extended the deadline for certificates to arrive in schools/colleges until 7 November. Please note we cannot issue a certificate for a student without the correct date of birth.
To ensure we have the correct information for your school/college before we send your certificates, please check the ‘Certificate name’ details found on the ‘Key information/Centre details’ page of e-AQA. If changes are needed, please contact us using the link on the page.

Retaining coursework/controlled assessment
A reminder that Ofqual requires samples of students' coursework and controlled assessment from each summer exams series.
The requirements for 2016 are currently being finalised by Ofqual and when these are known we'll provide more information which can be shared with colleagues in your school / college. |

Entry fees 2016/17 |
|
We’ll provide a summary of any small, inflationary changes to our entry fees before the end of the summer term. A comprehensive list of entry fees changes will be available from mid-August.
Our aim is to continue providing market-leading specifications and first class support services that are excellent value for money.

Autumn 2016 support meetings and training events |
|
We held free face-to-face training events for over 300 exams officers in 2015/16. We’ve received some fantastic feedback and will continue to offer these free sessions in October and November. We’re using the feedback to make the sessions even more relevant for exams officers and will consider some additional venues.
Attendance on our webinar training and support events for Entries, Coursework, e-Subs and Preparing for exams, has exceeded all expectations. Many of you have also viewed these after the event on our YouTube channel. We’re delighted with the feedback we’ve received, and hope that these online events really help busy exams officers access information at a time that is convenient for them.
We’re also looking at what else we can do to support you via other channels – such as our Facebook page. Watch this space!

Availability of our GCSEs to schools in Northern Ireland |
|
Education Minister Peter Weir has overturned the decision made by former minister John O'Dowd in 2015 to allow pupils in Northern Ireland to receive GCSE grades from English exam boards who give results using numbers from 9–1. Read the full update on our changes to GCSEs pages. |

This follows Ofqual’s announcement about these qualifications being available for re-sits in November 2016 and for the last time in summer 2017.
Further information on qualifications and eligibility for public funding is available on GOV.UK. If you have any queries, please contact EFA via their online form. |

New level 1/2 Technical Awards |
|
We're developing a new suite of practical, vocational qualifications that 14-16 year olds can study alongside their GCSEs.
If approved by the Department for Education, each new Technical Award will be equivalent to a single GCSE and will count towards performance tables. First teaching will be from September 2017.

Our accredited specifications |
|
|
|
We've just heard that our final qualification in phase 2, AS level Geography, has been accredited by Ofqual, ready for first teaching in September 2016.
That means that all 30 of our phase 2 subjects have been accredited by Ofqual and AQA has again received full accreditation before any other awarding body. It’s a hugely positive message that we’re justifiably proud of. |
